Find the right starting point
Our seven easy-to-understand learning stages use CEFR-aligned descriptions, from Pre-A1 to C2. They guide lesson placement; they are not official Cambridge certifications.
Pre-A1 · Pre-Beginner
Learn letters, sounds, first words, and very basic expressions. Start understanding and using simple English.
A1 · Beginner
Introduce yourself, ask and answer familiar questions, and understand basic phrases used every day.
A2 · Elementary
Talk about routines, family, and familiar situations. Read and write short, simple messages.
B1 · Intermediate
Discuss familiar topics, understand straightforward texts, and write connected paragraphs about experiences and plans.
B2 · Upper Intermediate
Communicate with increasing fluency, understand detailed texts, and express opinions clearly.
C1 · Advanced
Use English effectively for complex academic, social, and professional tasks, with nuanced expression.
C2 · Proficient
Understand demanding spoken and written English and communicate with precision and flexibility.
For children, we also consider age and school grade. Speaking, listening, reading, and writing may develop at different rates, so a tutor may recommend different starting points for each skill.
